BIG YELLOW TAXI

Released in 1970
(*cheers* What a great year! I was a June baby)

They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got till it's gone?
They paved paradise... and put up a parking lot.

They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum
And they charged all the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em ...

Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Hey farmer farmer -- put away that D.D.T. now
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees-- please!
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Late last night I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..."

Lyrics by Joni Mitchell

NEWSPAPER TIDBIT :
Joni said this about writing the song to journalist Alan McDougall in the early 1970's-

"Living in Los Angeles (smog-choked L.A.) is bad enough but the last straw came when I visited Hawaii for the first time. It was night time when we got there, so I didn't get my first view of the scenery until I got up the next morning. The hotel room was quite high up so in the distance I could see the blue Pacific Ocean. I walked over to the balcony and there was the picture book scenery, palm tree swaying in the breeze and all. Then I looked down and there was this ugly concrete car park in the hotel grounds. I thought 'They paved paradise and put up a parking lot' and that's how the song "Big Yellow Taxi" was born."

08:50 --

I can hardly believe they just allowed NBC co-anchor Matt Lauer to assist physicians in an angioplasty procedure: inserting intracoronary stent on The Today Show!!
That was spectacular to watch... I'm sure he's quite proud of himself, probably having never even taken a single course in anatomy and physiology in his life!

(And for the sake of Matt's indemnity, let's just hope the patient signed all his legal rights away ;-)

~It should be against the law to post a photo like this~ :-p

By the way, here's a little closeup memoir of Jakob Dylan ...from one of the greatest nights I've had in ages. On a trip back from my home state New Jersey, I was able to catch "The Wallflowers" (opening acts Anna Nalick and Jeffrey Gaines) at the Innsbrook Pavilion in Richmond, VA on June 17, 2005. (special thanks to Crystal Street!)

Great Expectations

{??} Yes? No? Maybe?
What are your expectations, blog readers?
If I write something profound, then sit around waiting for some feedback, it would only make me feel like a piece of fly paper or a bug zapper. I know you're not a bunch of insects out there (or so we hope) !

I'm technically not a "blogger" in the strictest sense. I'm a reader; I absorb what others write and process it. I'm a thinker and mostly an introvert. There is no greased slide from my brain to my keyboard. However, being private doesn't make me selfish.

So if you are hoping "Cinderella" will write her daily diary entry about "all the neat stuff" that goes on here at the palace after I light from a ride on my white horse, think again. However, you're welcome to come by anytime, comment, and e-mail when you see something interesting. Be nice and have patience with me...

I'm a busy gal!
Thanks and best regards
